A Bit of Culinary History Weekend Menu & Daily Specials
The culinary delights of the Yucatecan cuisine are made of an exquisite blend of flavors, both Mexican and European.
A bit of history will explain the strong European influence: there was a time when the Yucatán Peninsula was considered a land to which access was difficult and far removed from the rest of Mexico. The mountainous terrain and few roads isolated the peninsula.
However, having ports, cultural treaties, and commercial dealings with Europe (particularly France), New Orleans and Cuba, the Yucatecans' were pleasantly influenced in clothing, architecture, and cusine, from these countries and cities.
The mixture in culinary arts, resulted in some of the following exquisite unmatched delicacies found in our weekly, weekend, and catering menus.
Weekly Specials
Monday
FRIJOL CON PUERCO The Yucatecan version of pork and beans. Chunks of pork cooked with black beans, served with rice, and garnished with radish, cilantro and onion. A regular Monday dish in most Yucatecan homes.
Tuesday
CHIRMOLE
A typical Tuesday dish in Yucatan. Chunks of pork cooked with beans, and Chrimole paste, or recado negro.
Wednesday
LOMITOS (VALLADOLID STYLE)
Mayan style chili made of chopped tenderloin pork and roasted tomato.
Thursday
PUCHERO de TRES CARNES
A dish which has 3 main proteins in yucatan cooking: beef, chicken, and pork. Mixed with the protein is many different vegies such as squashes, potatoes and corn, topped with noodles with cabbage and garbanzo beans.
Friday
It VARIES. PLEASE CALL
Every Friday we make a different dish from our Catering Menu.
Please note that during the week, in addtion to our daily dish, tamales, tortas, & Cochinita Pibil are available. Also, any weekend OR catering special can also be ordered with ample notice & with a minimum order. Please call ahead of time to place order or for more information.
